Limitations
There are limits on what the Violent Crimes Compensation Board covers and how much can be paid per service/request.
All payments will be subject to eligibility, available funds and predetermined allowable limits. Please verify that funds are approved and available prior to assuming the full cost will be covered by the Violent Crimes Compensation Board.
Eligible expenses must be related to the crime that occurred AND all expenses draw from the overall award cap of $40,000.
Examples of Eligible Expenses Include:
Medical
Mental Health Services
Funeral and Burial
Medical
- Hospital services
- Physician/dental charges
- Physical therapy,
- Ambulance fees
- Tests, x-rays, blood work
- Cultural and traditional healing approaches
- Chiropractic care
- Prescriptions/over-the-counter medications/supplies
- Home health care
- Medical co-pays/deductibles
- Medical equipment, or devices needed or damaged because of the crime that are essential to assist in normal daily life functions
Mental Health Services
- Counseling
- Co-pays, deductibles
- Other cultural and traditional healing approaches are included.
Allowable limits will vary depending on service provided and the provider license.
Funeral and Burial
Including but not limited to:
- Casket/urn or similar vessel
Funeral services - Burial vault
- Cremation costs
- Grave marker
- Flowers
- Transportation of body
- Memorial meal
- Burial clothing.
- Alaska Native or other culturally relevant practices may be eligible depending on the request.
